Rupee appreciates further against dollar

Mumbai (PTI): Rupee appreciated further against the US currency during morning trade following a sustained rally in stock markets on the back of expectations of fresh capital inflows.

In quiet trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, the local currency resumed firm at 39.51/53 per dollar from yesterday's close of 39.5950/6050 a dollar and later moved in a range of 39.47-39.53 in late morning deals.

Rupee continued to draw support from expectations of increased inflows, prompted by reports that more foreign funds waiting the market regulator's clearance.

The benchmark Sensex jumped by 340 points during morning trade and Asian markets ruled firm for second straight day.
