India seeks investment for facilities at 35 airports

Dubai (PTI): India has sought investment in various facilities associated with the development of the 35 non-metro airports in the country, a senior official said.

Arun Mishra, joint secretary in Ministry of Civil Aviation, said investors from around the world including Gulf countries have shown interest in bidding for various projects.

He said 35 non-metro airports have been selected for modernisation and the work for their development was on. Of these, 24 airports would be taken up for city side development through Public Private Partnership (PPP) including maintenance and operation of the terminal buildings, cargo operations and real estate development, he said.

Mishra, who was here as a member of the delegation led by Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel to attend an airshow, said India was willing to open "centres of excellence" in the aviation sector for training pilots and technicians.

"These centres can be set up in India since the country has a pool of workforce with a fair knowledge of English can help training of pilot who can be deployed in India, the Gulf countries and Far East," he said.

India and the Gulf countries, which are buying hundreds of new aircrafts, will need many pilots in the years to come, he added.
