Motorola, Kodak join hands to launch camera phones

Beijing (PTI): US-based handset manufacturer Motorola has joined hands with digital imaging solution provider Kodak to launch a new line of camera phones, which will hit the market this year.

The company unveiled the first phone of the series, MOTOZINE ZN5, a five-megapixel cameraphone with built-in image correction, here today.

Motorola has entered into a ten-year agreement with Kodak as per which the companies would develop phones for the Zine series, Motorola Inc Corporate Vice-President (Mobile Devices Marketing) Jeremy Dale said.

The phone would be launched in China in July before the Olympics and later, will be introduced in India.

"India is an important market for us. The country has a strong blogging community. There has been a massive rise in content creation by the users who want to blog," Dale said.

"Sharing of user generated contents is going to be the next generation application which will drive the growth of mobile devices across the globe," he said, adding that today people don't just shoot photo but want to share it with the peer groups.

Other top phone manufacturers like LG, Samsung, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson already have launched mobile phones with five or above five megapixel camera.

ZN5 has features like 350 MB of available memory with an option of adding a micro SD card up to 4 GB in size, FM radio and MP3.

ZN5 is optimised to work with Kodak's EasyShare and provide access to Kodak gallery or other web sharing sites. Users can also share images with Edge or Wi-Fi connectivity and can also print photos via Bluetooth Wireless technology and Kodak printers.
