EKO to export electric scooters to US
Bangalore (PTI): Bangalore-based EKO vehicle Pvt Ltd has received United States Department of Transport's approval to export its electric scooter EV 60 to the US market, a top company official said on Wednesday.
Company Chairman Anil Ananthakrishna said they would sell 10,000 units annually, mainly to food chains and smaller metros. He had finalised two distribution channels in the US for EV 60, which would be priced between US Dollar 1500 and and 1,800.
EKO had also set up warehouse infrastructure in Atlanta, he added.
"Getting the Department of Transport's approval is like a green-card. We can now export the two-wheelers to the US markets without any hurdle", Ananthakrishna told PTI here. He said the shipment would begin in January and the company is mulling the option of floating a subsidiary in the US.
He said the battery-operated EV 60, promoted as the most economically priced L2 category scooter, travels at 35 miles an hour and is comercially-viable, Ananthakrishna said the company sees good potential to sell them in smaller metros, for internal use and as "off-road" two-wheelers.
