Karthikeyan hints at second season in A1GP

New Delhi, April 10. (PTI): Having made an impressive debut at the A1GP circuit, Narain Karthikeyan is keen to race for A1 Team India in the next season provided he is offered the "right package" by team management.

"I am in discussion with A1 Team India. I am quite keen to do the entire championship next season. Arena Motorsports, who run our car are an excellent team. I really enjoy working with them, Karthiekyan said.

"I am confident that they can give me the right package to compete very strongly next season," he said.

Karthikeyan, who is a test driver with Formula One team Williams, said he chose to race in the A1 circuit this season as it offered him a chance to test himself against stronger international competition.

"Of the three or four options that I had, A1 was certainly the most attractive. It is a genuine World Championship with representation from all over the world, and racing across the globe.

"The level of competition is great, and with the cars all being equal, I felt that I could compete on a level playing field without any technical disadvantages," he explained.

Speaking about his performance so far, Karthikeyan said he has managed to make his presence felt during some tough races and is looking forward to further improve his show in the coming races.

"I think I have shown that when the car is competitive, so am I. I have made a mistake or two, like in Qualifying in Durban, and the team have made a couple of mistakes as well, which has hampered my performance.

But overall I think we have made a positive start, and now we are really fired up to rack up some good results before the season is over," Karthikeyan said.

Karthikeyan felt that despite the slow progress made by A1 Team India, it had a chance of winning the Grand Prix.

"With the championship designed the way it is, I think any team can win, given the right ingredients, so of course A1 Team India can win. We are all working flat-out to prove exactly that," he said.
