Changchun wins archery men's team title at City Games
WUHAN (Xinhua): Changchun scored 207 points to overcome Nanjing's 204, claiming men's team title in archery at the Chinese City Games here on Thursday.
Changchun advanced into final in the cost of Chengdu with 191- 185. Then in final, Changchun upgraded their precision to shoot 207 points, edging out Nanjing, who booked their berth in final by outshoot Beijing Shunyi in 209-197.
The bronze medal match is a lop-sided bout. Beijing Shunyi surmounted Chengdu by 22 points in 215-193.
The final is a close match-up, but Changchun took grip of the upper hand from the very beginning.
After the first bunch of six arrows, Changchun was four ahead of Nanjing in 54-50. Nanjing wasted their best chance to overtake in the second bunch as Changchun scored double seven's. A five- pointer resulted in the slide of levelling off the gap. Changchun kept three points in hand midway in 102-99.
The second half extended fierce contest. After 18 arrows, Changchun led 155-153 with six attempts remaining.
Changchun shot three nine's to kick off the last bunch (six arrows) against Nanjing's 8-7-8, expanding their advantage to 6 points.
The 10-8-10 performance in last gasp was too late to save Nanjing. Changchun scored seven and nine in their last two from the bottom, just needing a seven to clinch the title. A nine from national archer Zhao Shenzhou sealed up the victory.
