Soma wants to become a coach
Kolkata (PTI): Heptathlete Soma Biswas, who represented India at Sydney and Athens Olympics, now wants to become a coach or enter sport administration.
Upset with her performance after she failed to atain 6,000 points so as to qualify for Beijing Olympics at the national championships in Madurai, the Bengal heptathlete had called it a day during the meet last month.
The 30-year-old Soma, however, made it an official announcement on Wednesday at a Calcutta Sports Journalist Club function to mark the World Sports' Journalists Day.
The silver medalist in both the Doha (2006) and Busan (2002) Asian Games, however, "did not rule out a comeback".
Asked if she would like to make comeback if there's pressure or demand, Soma gave an indirect reply: "Who knows what future holds for me? So it's difficult for me to answer that question... anything can happen."
"For an international athlete, 30-31 years is not an old age... Many athletes are at their peak at this age. However, for me, it's the right time; I don't think I'm retiring early."
"But I've decided to get into sport administration or become a coach at an academy...maybe, at my native place in Nadia," she added.
Soma said she was very disappointed after failing to reach the 6,000 mark in Madurai which led her to take this decision.
