Table Tennis: Sharath, Shamini to play for India in Japan
New Delhi (PTI): Olympian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal and new woman national champion Kumaresan Shamini will be among 10 Indians, set to take part in the upcoming World Table Tennis Championships in Yokohama, Japan from April 28.
Nine Japan-bound paddlers including former national champions Subhajit Saha, Poulomi Ghatak and Mouma Das, along with 10 other Indian players are currently undergoing a 25-day training session in China, while world number 85 Sharath is busy with his commitment with Super Division club San Sebastian in the Spanish League.
Sharath will join his teammates on April 20 at the National Table Tennis Centre at Zhengding in Hebei province, before they set out for Japan on April 27 for the eight-day championship.
In doubles category of the tournament, Sharath will join Subhajit, while India's number one pair of Poulomi and Mouma will be the best bet in the women's section.
New national coach Italian Massimo Constantini and Bhawani Mukherjee, Chief Table Tennis Coach of the NIS Patiala will accompany the paddlers during the prestigious tournament.
