First comprehensive website on pancreatic cancer launched

Mumbai (PTI): To create more awareness on pancreatic cancer, specialists from the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) here and Delhi's Sir Gangaram Hospital have come together to launch Asia's first comprehensive website on pancreatic and peri ampullary cancers.

Tata Memorial Centre Director K A Dinshaw launched the website here on Tuesday.

"Pancreatic cancer is ranked fifth in the cause of cancer-related deaths in the USA and is seen in increasing numbers of tertiary cancer centers in India," Shailesh V Shrikhande of TMH said.

He said the website will provide updated and locally relevant information on various aspects of this type of cancer.

Speaking on the occasion Sudeep Gupta, Associate Professor and medical oncologist, TMH, said the number of pancreatic cancer patients in India is going to increase in the near future because of the increase in older population.

He Gupta said there is a need to identify potentially preventable risk factors associated with this type of cancer.

Adarsh Choudhary from Gangaram Hospital said the website provides Indian perspective of the disease.

The website, www.pancreaticcancerindia.com, aims at providing a comprehensive platform and building awareness on pancreatic cancer and peri ampullary tumors amongst patients, care givers and healtcare professionals.
