HP discusses pheasant conservation projects
Shimla (PTI): The Himachal Pradesh government on Saturday reviewed ongoing pheasant conservation projects with the World Pheasant Association and discussed strategies for effective implementation of such programmes.
The discussion was held between World Pheasant Association Vice President John Corder and state Forest minister J P Nadda here.
Nadda informed Corder that the Western Tragopan pheasant has been bred in captivity only at Sarahan in Kinnaur, an official release said.
The HP forest minister said the first successful planned breeding took place in the state and nine birds of this rare species were bred.
He said a project is underway to construct new aviaries to enable birds to breed more successfully.
Corder briefed Nadda on progress with breeding the endangered Cheer Pheasant.
