COAI to launch awareness programme on radiation emission

Mumbai (PTI): Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) on Friday said it would soon launch an awareness programme to dispel misconceptions regarding radiation emissions by telecom towers.

"We will launch an educative and interactive awareness programme to clear misconceptions about ill-effects of radiation emission by telecom towers," COAI Senior Director T R Dua told PTI.

COAI had earlier said that due to lack of awareness and proper communication about various national and international studies and reviews, there existed a general misconception that Electromagnetic Radiations emitted from mobile systems were a potential source of health hazards.

The body, which represents GSM operators, had also said that Radio Frequency radiations emitted by mobile communication systems lie in the non-ionising part of the electromagnetic spectrum and thus do not have enough energy to cause any generic damage.
