195 show cause notices issued to TV channels
New Delhi, March 7 (PTI): As many as 195 show cause notices have been issued to different television channels of which most of them were for "telecasting obscenity", Rajya Sabha was informed today.
In a reply, Minister of Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi said these notices were issued during last two years for violating Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act.
The minister said AXN channel was ninth in a row which has been banned in India for violating the law, which included "telecasting obscenity."
The Centre has constituted an inter-ministerial committee under the Act to look into the violation of programme and advertising codes, he said.
The committee, either suo motu or on the receipt of complaint, examines cases of violation of these codes and recommends action to be taken by the government.
Show cause notices are issued in the first instance to TV channels for telecasting objectionable programmes or advertisements in violation of the codes, he said.
