Court records statement in case against Liz-Nayar
Jodhpur, April. 9 (PTI): A court here today recorded the statement of a witness in a case of "hurting the sentiments" of Hindu community against celebrity couple Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar and fixed April 10 for the next hearing.
The case against the British actress and her NRI businessman husband was filed on a complaint by one Vishnu Khandelwal who alleged that the couple has "defamed" the traditional marriage system of the Hindus and it has "hurt the sentiments" of the entire community.
Retired Deputy Director of Education Department in Rajasthan Yatindra Nath Mishra today appeared before Judicial Magistrate Hari Vallabh Khatri for giving his statement.
Mishra said that the marriage of Liz-Nayar was an "attack on Hindu religion", according to the counsel for the complainant, Hasti Mal Saraswat.
Since the two had married in Britain and started living like a husband and wife, there was no reason to perform the marriage in Hindu tradition and it was done "to hurt the community" and "malign the spiritual sanctity of Hinduism and Indian mythology", Mishra said.
The case is now at initial stage and after recording the statements of the complainant, the court today started the recording of witness statements.
The recording of the statements of other witnesses in the case will continue on April 10.
