Coming soon, a film on Maharashtra Deputy CM Patil

Mumbai, July. 6 (PTI): A Marathi feature film based on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader R R Patil's political career is slated for release in October.

"My daughter is directing the film, titled `Aar, Aar Aba, Ata Tari Thamba' (R R Aba At least Stop Now), and it features a character called R R Aba," Bollywood actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar told PTI.

Patil is more commonly known as `Aba' in the state. However, the man who is the focus of the film was unaware that such a film was being made.

"I am hearing it for the first time. Nobody has approached me or consulted me on this issue," Patil said.

Amrapurkar, whose character of the villain `Maharani' in the Sanjay Dutt-starrer `Sadak' has become a milestone in negative roles, said work on the film started in March.

"We completed the shooting in 22 days and currently, the post-production work is going on," he said. "We expect to release the film in October."

When pointed out that Patil was not aware that such a film was being made on him, Amrapurkar said "we plan to arrange a special screening for him before its release."

Amrapurkar and another veteran actor Neelu Phule are among the star-cast of the comedy movie, which dwells on Patil's role in popularising the concept of a clean village under the Sant Gadgebaba cleanliness drive.

"We hope the government would consider the film worthy of an award," he said.

Patil, who hails from Sangli in Western Maharasthra, shot into limelight when he was made Deputy CM and Home Minister in Congress-NCP Government in 2004. His decision to ban dance bars in Maharashtra drew flak from various quarters.
