Film on Rajiv Gandhi assassination probe hits screens

Thiruvananthapuram, July. 15 (PTI): After the success of his first movie `Keertichakra' which dealt with the Kashmir issue, Major Ravi, armyman-turned-director, has come out with a film about the commando operation to nab Sivarasan and others, accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Major Ravi, who was commanding the operation to nab Sivarasan and his aides holed up in a Bangalore house, describes the film `Mission 90 days' with Mammootty in lead role, as "an excerpt from his life."

Ravi says the pent-up frustration of a commando who could not neatly execute an operation which was meant to capture Sivarasan alive was the core subject of the movie. Mammootty plays the role of Major Ravi who was a National Security Guard commando at the time of the operation.

"The entire film is about my personal experience of commanding the operation. I have not included any fictional element for commercialising it. The introduction of a song was the only gimmick used in the movie to make it more palatable," Ravi told reporters after a screening for the press.

Ravi claims the commandos lost the opportunity to nab Sivarasan and his accomplices alive due to the "delay caused by a single individual who was in charge of the operations."

"Though we tracked down the house where they were staying, we were denied permission to act swiftly, which alerted the militants, who consumed cyanide. It was a frustating moment and I have given vent to my suppressed emotions through the film," he said.
