Darjeeling upbeat over Prasant's success in 'Indian Idol'

Siliguri, Sept. 13 (PTI): The entire Darjeeling hill is upbeat over a possible success of Gorkha singer Prasant Tamang featuring among the last two aspirants of the 'Indian idol' television singing talent contest.

GNLF chief Subash Ghising, AIGL Chairman Madan Tamang and CPM MP Suraj Pathak have urged the hill people to send SMS in favour of the Darjeeling-born singer.

The largest circulated Nepali daily Himalayan Darpan has formed a Prasant Fan Club here this week and launched a campaign for the singer who has only Amit Paul of Meghalaya to beat for the title.

Meanwhile, Sikkim Chief Minister, Pawan Kumar, Chamling declared Prasant as Brand Ambassador of the Himalayan state recently.

Run on Sony TV twice a week, the popular programme is an Indian version of British 'Pop Idol' show.
