'Manchadikuru' to be released by June 2008
Kochi, Sept. 14 (PTI): The National FIlm Development Corporation and Little Films (India) will be co-producing a Malayalam feature film 'Manchadikuru' (Lucky Red seeds), which will hit theatres by June next year.
The film is being produced under the new NFDC banner 'Cinemas of India' to promote Indian cinema of all languages within India and abroad and 'Manchadikuru' is the first film under this banner, Film's Writer and Director, Anjali Menon and NFDC Southern Region Manager, Ramakrishnan, told a press meet here.
The shooting of the film will start by next month at Ottapalam, Menon said.
'Manchadikuru' is a journey back to a south Malabar village in the late 1970s. A humourous family story which touches upon the lives of non-resident Keralites who arrive in the village to attend a funeral in the family.
During the 16-day funeral ritual in the Nair tradition, the whole family is forced to stay together despite their mutual tensions.Unaware of the grown-up family politics, the children discover a friendship that they cannot forget.
The film is narrated from the viewpoint of a 10-year-old boy and focuses on the nostalgia of childhood and the past era.
The cast includes veteran actors Thilakan, Murali, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Urvashi, Jagathy Sreekumar, among others.
