In New York, "Manorama Six Feet Under" is tops

New York:. Rituparno Ghosh’s “The Last Lear” was screened in New York on November 11, 2007 in a finale to the cultural events from the sub-continent, as the year draws to a close. The Indo American Arts Council’s endeavour is to showcase the best of South Asian Cinema to US audiences and with this objective, it brought new films by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mira Nair, Santosh Sivan, Firoz Abbas Khan and Pan Nalin to the festival.
The Festival presented 50 films, including 12 world premieres, 11 US and 15 New York premieres. The films and documentaries were from India, Kuwait, France and United Kingdom, USA and Canada. Another highlight was the “AIDS JaaGO Project” that presented four short films that aimed to demolish myths and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS.
Navdeep Singh's "Manorama Six Feet Under" won the best film Award. Actors Danny Denzongpa (film: Frozen) and Konkona Sen Sharma (film: Dosar) bagged the best actor and actress award respectively. The film 'Frozen' directed by Shivajee Chandrabhushan also received the best jury Award in the festival.
MIAAC launched a programme this year titled Script Link which is designed to foster relationships between the film industry executives and writers of South Asian origin.
