Association of amusement parks demand cut in entertainment tax
Mumbai (PTI): Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries on Saturday asked the state government to bring down the entertainment tax, that stands at a whooping 50 per cent.
"Our customers have to pay an entry fee of Rs 200 to enter an amusement park. If 50 per cent more tax is imposed on them, it begins to pinch them," President of the association VGP Ravidas told reporters here.
Entertainment tax for amusement parks is a state subject and charged differently by governments. Punjab charges 50 per cent, Maharashtra 15 per cent, Gujarat 25 per cent and West Bengal 20 per cent.
"Andhra Pradesh is the only state that doesn't charge tax on amusement parks," Ravidas said.
"We are okay with an uniform tax rate of 10 per cent," he said.
On February 14 till 16, the association is organising a Trade Show in Mumbai. This is the eighth time that the show is being organised.
"The Trade Show is a place for buyers and sellers to interact," he said. About 150 stalls would be put up.
Talking about the USD 1-billion Indian industry, Ravidas said the industry is witnessing a growth rate of 6-7 per cent per annum since 2005.
"Even a small place such as Dehra Dun has four amusement parks. People within the country have started to move from one place to another bringing in more to amusement parks," he said.
