Bhatt, Rawal seek police protection from cyber imposters
Mumbai (PTI): Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actor Paresh Rawal have complained to the city police alleging that some unidentified persons are impersonating them on a social networking site.
A few days ago, Bhatt was surprised when his dentist asked him as to why the director, who is generally vocal on all issues, was chatting in a subdued manner on a popular social networking site.
Similarly, Rawal met an aspiring actress a few days ago who claimed to have e-mailed him her portfolio after interacting with him on the networking site.
"Both Bhatt as well as Rawal have complained to us and we are doing what is known as preliminary enquiries in the matter," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said, adding a formal offence is yet to be registered with the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell.
Maria said both the film personalities fear that their names are being misused on the internet due to which they have come forward with the complaints.
"They feel someone is impersonating them on the internet and want the matter checked. We are confident of arresting the guilty persons," Maria said.
Speaking to PTI, Rawal said he had visited the police headquarters a few days ago in connection with the matter and has been assured of all help by the police.
