US Sikh body honours Rabi Shergill, Seechewal

Chandigarh (PTI): Singer Rabi Shergill and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal were among those honoured on Sunday by a US-based Sikh organisation for creating positive image of the Sikh community and being role models.

Others who were honoured included renowned artist Arpana Caur, head of Pingalwara institution Dr Inderjit Kaur, Delhi-based Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council and industrialist Rajondh Singh.

The event was organised by Washington-based Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE) to honour those Sikhs and organisations who have created a positive image of the Sikh community and those who have been doing pioneering work in different areas.

"This event is an opportunity to recognise those individuals who have contributed to society in general and also who have become role models for our youth," chairman of SCORE, Rajwant Singh said.

He said SCORE had worked closely with the White House and US Congress on Sikh issues in America and is presently sponsoring higher studies of 200 poor meritorious students from different villages of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu.

Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary and MP, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and MP Tarlochan Singh were among 300 guests who attended the award function here.
