Cinema prize for Dardenne brothers
Brussels (AP): Belgian directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne have won the European Parliament's Lux cinema prize for ``Lorna's Silence.''
The film is about an Albanian woman who enters a sham marriage to gain Belgian citizenship. The annual prize is awarded to promote European films. The winner will be subtitled into all 23 official languages of the European Union to facilitate distribution.
``Lorna's Silence'' was competing against a Hungarian film, ``Delta'' about a young man who returns to a river settlement after a long absence, and a Czech documentary ``Citizen Havel'' about former president Vaclav Havel.
The Dardenne brothers won the screenplay prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The EU assembly awarded its prize on Wednesday.
