Nepal ready to provide security to Indian film makers

Kathmandu (PTI): Nepal, known for its picturesque valleys and landscapes, is wooing Indian film producers to shoot their movies in the Himalayan country, a decade after they stopped filming here due to security concerns.

Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav, who recently visited India for the meeting of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation), said he had held talks with Indian film producers, who showed interest in cooperating with Nepal.

"I have also talked to the film producers of India to attract them to Nepal for film shooting and for joint collaboration in the field of film production," he told PTI in an interview here.

"They have shown interest and we have to give them security," the minister said. "I met film producers Dutta Samant and Dr Chenni in Mumbai during my recent visit and discussed with them the possibility of resuming shooting in Nepal."

Indian film producer have not been shooting in Nepal for the past one decade due to security reasons following the Maoist insurgency, which came to an end after the former rebels joined political mainstream two years back.

"We are also establishing an industrial security force to provide security to Indian investors and other joint ventures operating in Nepal including Dabur Nepal, United Telecom, Coca Cola etc.," he said.

"Dabur Nepal is the largest exporter of cosmetics and it also gives a largest amount of revenues to government but we have not been able to provide security as needed," he lamented.
