Indian-American Anoop Desai out of 'American Idol'

Los Angeles (PTI): Indian-American contestant Anoop Desai has been voted out of the eight season of 'American Idol'.

The singer, who had been a favourite and was dubbed as 'Noop Doog' by the judges, was sent home along with 24-year-old Memphis native Lil Rounds after they received the fewest number of viewer votes on the popular Fox singing competition, leaving five to compete for the title.

"I'm so really disappointed. I really am," the 22-year-old college student from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, said after his ouster from the show last night.

The two contestant were dismissed last night instead of the usual one as the judges had already given Matt Giraud a second chance last week through the one-time Judges' Save.

Rounds and Desai stumbled on Disco night. The former sang Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" and got axed by the judges, with Simon Cowell predicting that she's going home.

Cowell termed Desai's performance on Donna Summer's "Dim All the Lights" as his worst performance.

Desai had become one of the 13 finalists on the 'Idol' after judges selected him as final wild card pick.

The judges were not favouring the 24-year-old Rounds and Desai for the last few weeks, US media reported.

The five finalists left on the show are --Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta and Matt Giraud. The final is less than a month away.
