Kerala cops mulling a feature film on terror

Kochi (PTI): Concerned over attempts to recruit youth of Kerala for militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the state police are mulling making a feature film on terrorism using it as a tool in their campaign to fight the menace.

Youths from Kerala are increasingly being recruited for terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir, according to police sources who point out that, few months ago, some terrorists shot dead in Kashmir were Keralites from Malappuram district.

Confessions of the recruits who have been arrested had revealed that many youth from various parts of the state had been indoctrinated and pushed into the terror network, the sources told PTI.

'The Kochi Police is toying with the idea of making a film. It is a first-of its kind experiment for which the government sanction has to be taken', Kochi city Police Commissioner, Manoj Abraham said.

The film was at a conceptual stage, he said, adding, .

"This is a new idea to spread the message of terrorism through films."

On how soon they expected government clearance, he said, 'We will be preparing a basic outline of the script for submitting it to the government'. Work on the project would start only after the sanction.

Top Malayalam actors Mammootty and Mohanlal, as also Suresh Gopi and Jairam, have pledged their support, he said.
