    Rain-cum-drought friendly crop varieties okayed

Ranchi, April 23 (PTI): Two varieties of forage crops adaptable to rains and tolerant to drought under semi-arid condition were okayed for sending to the central sub-committee on crop standards for release on an all India basis.

The identification committee which met under the chairmanship of ICAR assistant director general S N Shukla at Birsa Agriculture University discussed the release proposal of six varieties, but ultimately Guinea Grass JHGG 04-1 and Spear Grass (Heteropogon) IGHC 03-4 were okayed," B N Singh, BAU director, research, said in a release here.

Both the varieties were developed by Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, after experimenting at different locations.
