Oilmeal exports down by 10 p.c in May
New Delhi, June 7 (PTI); India's oilmeal exports declined by 10 per cent to 2,30,025 tonnes in May as compared to 2,56,325 tonnes during the corresponding period previous year.
"The fall in oilmeal exports is mainly due to non shipment of groundnut meal as well as a decline in export of soybean meal," an official of industry body Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) said.
According to SEA, which compiles export and import data of edible oil and oilmeal every month, there was no export of groundnut meal in May due to shortfall in production of the oilseed.
Groundnut meal export during May 2006 was 18,525 tonnes, SEA said.
Export of soybean meal also fell to 1,10,050 tonnes from 1,40,075 tonnes in the period under review.
