    AP Govt announces improvised crop insurance scheme

    Hyderabad (PTI): Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday announced introduction of an improvised crop insurance scheme with village as a unit for assessment of crop loss in the entire state from this Kharif Crop season.

    Releasing a brochure highlighting the benefits of the comprehensive insurance scheme here, Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy said the state targeted to cover 45 lakh farmers, including tenant farmers, under the scheme.

    The farmers who have not taken loans from any bank or financial institutions would also be covered under the scheme along with farmers who have obtained loans from commercial and cooperative banks.

    A cell has been created in the Agriculture Department to cover all non-loanee farmers, he added.
