    26 lakh farmers to get loan waiver benefits: Vilasrao Deshmukh

    Ahmednagar (PTI): Maharahtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said that farmers who are yet to receive loan waiver benefits, even after clearing their debts, would receive them within a month.

    Addressing a gathering at Sangammer yesterday, Deshmukh said that there were 26 lakh farmers would receive loans in the state.

    The government has taken a decision to extend benefits of loan waiver to all eligible farmers. During the last four years, the government has distributed Rs 1,500 crore among them, Deshmukh said.

    The womens 'Bachat Gats' (self-help groups) will soon get insurance cover and decision to that effect will soon be taken, he said.

    Deshmukh also assured full support in the completion of Nilwande dam. The government has made provision of Rs 7,000 crore in the budget for irrigation projects and henceforth we will give priority to watershedding programmes, he said.

    Inspite of spending Rs 43,000 crores, we have not reached even the national average, the Chief Minister said.

    The municipalities in the state will get some grant along with loans at nominal rates for developmental work, he said adding that a provision of Rs 2000 crore had been made for this.

    Deshmukh further said that under the 'Nagar Utthan' scheme the government will also help other developmental works carried out by the A, B, C category of municipalities.

    Agriculture Minister Balasaheb Thorat and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Manikrao Thakre were also present during the occasion.
