    Rain water inundates paddy fields

Thanjavur (PTI): Low lying paddy fields in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts have been inundated following heavy rains lashing the districts in the last five days.

Though it would help the standing samba and thaladi paddy crops, if the rains continue for two more days the paddy crops would be submerged, agriculture department officials said here on Monday.

The rainfall was sufficient to meet the irrigation needs of the samba paddy crops and would enable us to complete the transplantation of the thaladi paddy crops before the month end, some of the farmers said here.

According to agriculture department, about 600 tanks in the districts have been filled in the rain.
