FB expresses concern over Bhutanese refugees in camps
New Delhi (PTI): The Forward Bloc on Saturday expressed concern over the state of affairs relating to hundreds of Bhutanese refugees staying in camps near the Indo-Nepal border and blamed the government for not being interested in settling the issue.
"Thousands of Bhutanese refugees are staying in (the refugee camps in Damakh) on the banks of Mechi river which also borders West Bengal. These refugees have tried several times to go back to their homeland but the Bhutan government is not ready to receive them," party secretary G Devarajan said here.
New Delhi "is taking no interest to settle this issue" which could create social tension and law and order problem in the border areas of Nepal, Bhutan and India and nearby districts, he alleged, adding the India Bhutan People's Solidarity Forum wanted the government to take steps to resolve the matter.
The Forward Bloc would submit a report to the government after a delegation led by general secretary and MP Debabrata Biswas visits the camps, Devarajan said.
