Tiwari sworn in as Andhra Governor
Hyderabad, Aug. 22 (PTI): Veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari was today sworn in as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh at a brief ceremony in the Raj Bhavan here.
The High Court Chief Justice G S Singhvi administered the oaths of office and secrecy to Tiwari.
The Chief Minister, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and a large number of Congress leaders were present on the occasion.
The swearing-in took place at 0945 hrs on the Raj Bhavan's lawns.
Eighty-two-year-old Tiwari had served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for three terms and the chief minister of the newly created Uttarakhand state.
Tiwari, who has held several key positions, including the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission and in the Union Cabinet in the 1980s, was named the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on August 19.
Orissa Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who was holding additional charge of Andhra Pradesh, was shifted to Karnataka to complete his remaining term.
