HC disposes of petition against M F Hussain
Mumbai, July 25 (PTI): The Mumbai High Court on Monday disposed of a writ petition filed by a BJP worker seeking action against renowned painter, M F Hussain, for "habitually hurting religious sentiments."
The court disposed of the case after police told the court that they have filed a FIR in the matter.
The court held that since police have taken notice of the matter and filed a FIR, the purpose of the petition was served.
Sanjay Bedia approached the High Court early this year after another Hindu organisation staged violent protests against an exhibition of Hussain's which had some works featuring Hindu deities.
The main objection was that Hussain had shown some popular mythological figures in objectionable form.
Bedia had argued in his petition before the High Court that Hussain was "in habit of" making such paintings which hurt religious sentiments, and yet authorities were not taking any action.
