Q & A ON CAREER CONCERNS

Dated 31th Oct, 2001

I have done my PG in Economics. Presently I'm working in a Central Government office as a clerk. My chances for promotion are small, so I want to take-up MCA through correspondence. Kindly let me know if the course will enhance my career. Will my age (I am 36 years-old) be a barrier in securing a job in the private sector?

Krishnamoorthy, Delhi

Most IT and software companies recruit young, dynamic and experienced software professionals for IT jobs. If you are keen on working in the software field you can pursue an MCA degree, though the present slump in the market may not really help you. You can consider pursuing MBA through correspondence, though your age may not really be a bar on new employment. This may prove to be more useful in helping you secure a good job in the private sector. Your economics degree will also be helpful in this. However, it is always wise not to quit the job you have in hand.
