Reliving the Pink Floyd experience

Inside 180 Proof.

PINK FLOYD is still going strong on the rock music scene, and Virgin Records is out with their new album: Echoes. 180 Proof, a bar on St. Mark's Road, is all set to host Pink Floyd's music in a unique tie-up with Virgin with special evenings this Friday and Saturday.

Echoes is a two-CD/cassette set containing 26 digitally re-mastered tracks which were chosen with the active participation of the band members themselves and showcases three decades of lyrical and musical genius. Typical of the magic of the band are numbers in the album such as See Emily Play, The Happiest Days of Our Lives, Another Brick in The Wall, Marooned, The Great Gig in the Sky, Comfortably Numb, One of These Days, When the Tigers Broke Free, Learning to Fly and of course, Echoes.

The weekend celebration of Pink Floyd's music includes a lucky draw on both days in which winners will get Echoes merchandise. Bangalore's celebrities and Pink Floyd fans will get time at the mike to speak for a few minutes about their Floyd experiences during the evening. Drop in at 180 Proof on both evenings and relive the magic of arguably the world's finest rock band through its music, a never-seen-before 18-minute film about the band, as well as music and footage from several Floyd concerts from their various world tours.

Speaking on the tie-up with Virgin Records, 180 Proof partner, Jay Singh, says: "Virgin Records, after evaluating several leading bars, selected us as its preferred international music partner in Bangalore. International and new releases from Virgin will be first showcased at 180 Proof in keeping with our philosophy of continually bringing the best to Bangalore. The Floyd weekend is just the beginning."

While the music companies are at it, may we suggest more such events, preferably at 180 Proof, which, with its high ceilings and good acoustics, is ideal for enjoying music. Bring in a Mick Jagger look-alike for a Rolling Stones retrospective. A Bianca Jagger imitation is optional. Or the Beatles themselves and a replica of the Yellow Submarine, complete with Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, searching for Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds among the audience.

Won't we music fans really relish such musical retros, under those high beams and safe within the granite walls of 180 Proof ?
