A change

IT is not your typical Bollywood dream. Yet Mahesh Dattani, known for some of his sensitive and contemporary plays, has made a daring transition in translating one of his better known works for the silver screen. Dattani, who was recently in town en route to Chennai, said that making a film of one of his plays was an "idea that I had been toying with for quite a while. When I met with industrialist Sanjiv Shah, things just seem to happen one after the other." Dattani who has rewritten key scenes of his play, "On A muggy Night in Mumbai" said he had to rework bits and pieces of the play since "some things that work on stage don't work out on the screen." The film is titled "Mango Scuffle" and Dattani has rewritten some of the major scenes set in a mango grove. Dattani felt that this play was most suitable for adaptation since they were looking at something progressive and contemporary. The film is due for release in August.
