When Becker came here

BORIS BECKER came to town on a hot summer day. But, he failed to enthuse the crowds at the DLTA courts.

As ambassador for the Laureus Foundation, Becker was to play charity matches with Vijay Amritraj, Kapil Dev, Aamir Khan and Yuvraj Singh.

When Khan did an impromptu jig from his film "Lagaan," Becker too responded.

Unfortunately, he could not display the old verve that made him an icon. In a charming fashion, Becker bounced off any embarrassing queries. The Laureus Foundation will support 15 scholarships a year. But for the aspiring Beckers, patiently waiting for a word with their idol, it remained a dream.
