New project

Gurinder Chadha

GURINDER CHADHA, of "Bhaji on the Beach" and "Bend it Like Beckham" fame, is already legging ahead for her next production. "It's a modern day Pride and Prejudice and it is going to be shot in India. I want this ready by 2004 in time for the Cannes festival," said the effervescent Chadha. "This one is not targeted at an NRI audience. It will have a wider appeal which I hope people all over the world can enjoy and see the best of Bollywood." Chadha said a lot depended on who would eventually play the role of Will Darcy. "This has to be an actor from Hollywood and on this depends the casting of many others," explained she. Chadha has already transposed names so the Bennet sisters are the Bakshi family; Bingley will be Balraj and so on. Infused with Chadha's humour this too could be a box office hit.
