Self-help

Fighting for many causes ... Richard Gere.

EVEN as he lent his presence to campaign for AIDS/HIV sufferers in India, Richard Gere is convinced that India does not need any one person's help to combat this deadly virus. What it needs is self-help. At 52, this practising Buddhist has also campaigned tirelessly for another cause close to his heart — that of the Tibetans. Gere is equally convinced that, in this fight as in other issues in the world, there is no place for violence. A firm believer in Gandhi's ideal of non-violence Gere said, "Non- violence is an extremely successful means of revolution." And he admits that finally he is going slower since age has caught up but he manages to make time for all things. Said Gere, "I suppose I find time because I want to do things."
