Finer points

JUST guzzling good wine is never enough — and that's what Danielle Raulet-Reynaud, a French sommelier, would have us believe. Even as she conducts a workshop teaching restaurateurs and barmen, to be able to identify the exhaustive wine list and which wines would go best with what food, Reynaud is quick to observe that Indians are still stuck to quaffing hard liquor. She has almost a missionary zeal in attempting to change that. Comparing a good wine with haute couture, Reynaud said "wine was just like a good perfume — a little is enough."

One of the few women to make it to the position of sommelier in a male dominated profession, Reynaud has also been awarded the Maitre d' Hotel. But her major challenge while in India is not only to get the converts but also to be able to match French wines to Indian food.
