Their new book
Whenhe published his first book, Arindam Chaudhuri knew he'd let a cat among the pigeons. The book's incredible success and the way in which economists revised some of their thinking is already the stuff that legends are made of. The restive young man then decided that he needed to do more than just write. And so followed a whole lecture series and finally the setting up of an institute where he taught you how exactly you could count your chickens before they hatched. With the recent publication of his second book, The Great Indian Dream, co-authored with his father Malay, he once again turns upside down many a time tested and established norm. To quote Arindam, "The book is not just an analysis of the Indian economy but about the change in the age-old belief that India cannot change." Scoffing at attempts to project the Indian middle class as one of the biggest markets for MNCs, he says, "We talk of 300 million middle class people but where are they?" Arindam and his father insist that their new book is for the masses.
