Glass, her medium
IT'S a glass act. Sculptor HEMI BAWA, known for her astonishing installations, had the capital's glitterati gazing in absolute rapture at the smoky chunks that formed part of her jewellery exhibition. Bawa, adorned with a flaming orange neckpiece with gold leaf plating, said that this might be her first and last jewellery show. "Just like some people specially writers announce their last works, I'd like to treat this exhibition as a short story" she said. Even as wannabe buyers picked their way around the displays, many were amazed to find that the torsos displaying the jewellery came with it. Said Bawa to some raised eyebrows, "There's more to my work than meets the eye there are layers and in those layers are messages." For Bawa who has constantly reinvented her approach to her art, glass is a medium that offers her unlimited potential. "I mean look at that," said she, pointing to one of the displays, "that's part of my car's windscreen"
