Timeless and versatile

A design by Poonam Soni.

BANGALORE WILL be treated to exquisite jewellery designed by well-known designer Poonam Soni. Ms. Soni, from Mumbai, has "created a special line of jewellery for Bangalore". These include diamonds, unusual stones, crystals, and enamels in gold. This collection has designs which are handcrafted with crochet meshes, hand-mounted with sparkling and uniquely-cut stones, and diamonds.

The jewellery, in Indo-Western style, are suited for "ethnic, western, and Indo-Western outfits". These will be presented by City-based fashion guru, Prasad Biddappa, in a fashion show at the Ball Room at Taj West End today. Choreographed by him, models will adorn themselves with Ms. Soni's designs at the show.

"My jewellery is created to enhance the personality and mood of the wearer. It has an aesthetic appeal that is timeless and versatile. I hope my guests in Bangalore appreciate my jewellery as much as I have enjoyed designing and creating them for the Garden City," Says Ms. Soni.

Ms. Soni is called "a pioneer" in the field of jewellery and has many "firsts" to her credit. She started trends such as blending semi-precious stones with diamonds with a base of unusual material such as shells and leather.

This designer has launched two "By Appointment Only" jewellery salons — Signature Line and Jewel Inn — in Mumbai. She has even designed jewellery for various title holders such as Ms. India, Ms. World, and Ms. Universe apart from catering to orders from Nina Ricci and Harrods.

Her forte is to work on unusual concepts such as carving forms on gold or crushing gold to "give it a crushed paper look. I use stones in rare shades and textures," says Ms. Soni. Actress Raveena Tandon will be the special guest at the event which begins at 8 p.m..
