Tamarind's newly opened retail outlet in the city finds S. Kumars weaving magic in the readymade segment.

Hrithik Roshan, brand ambassador for Tamarind
Summer is here. And dressed to kill seems to be the watchword this season. One of India's oldest dressmakers, S. Kumars, entered the readymade garments segment sometime ago with its Tamarind label for men. Tamarind's retail outlet was opened on Press Road here recently and the collection seems to reflect the flavour of Tamarind.
With its impeccable style and tailoring, the summer collection highlights -- a la Hrithik Roshan -- the physique, rather than hide it behind oversized wear. Tamarind shirts come in a variety of fabrics - pure cottons as well as blends. Apart from the usual cent per cent cottons, the shop also stocks tencel cotton shirts. These are cottons with a silky appearance to give that sophisticated look. Meant for formal wear, these can be picked up for Rs 995 apiece. Cotton lycra shirts come for Rs. 845 each. The Modal range of shirts is made of cent per cent cellulose from beech trees of Austria.
These informals are soft to touch and cost around Rs 1,100 each. Apart from plain ones, shirts come in stripes -- both thin and bold -- and checks of various hues too. The predominant colours are light blues, greens, yellows and violets -- all to give that bright and breezy summer look. Those who have given up on erasing those creases from the combed cottons may go for blends for a change. These shirts are 80 per cent cotton and 20 per cent polynosics.
If rolling up the sleeves spoils the fun for you, then opt for half-sleeved ones. The formals and casual wear come in pleasant colours in the range of Rs. 645 to Rs. 845. Greys, camel and burgundy are some of the shades available in corduroys for Rs. 745 and above. Short shirts for youngsters in colours such as lemon yellow and greys cost Rs. 645 each, soft denim shirts for Rs. 745, pique polos in orange, peach and fluorescent for Rs. 445 and V-necked tees are available for Rs. 645 each.
Soft polos and round-necked T-shirts in white, yellow, green, sky blue can be had in the range of Rs 199 to Rs 345. Shirts with coconut shell buttons come in colours such as red, green and blue. Formal trousers in polyesters are available in the range of Rs. 595 to Rs. 1,300.
Cotton trousers with flat fronts cost around Rs. 895 each and pleated ones can be had for Rs 945 each. Flat front corduroys with an extra inside pocket to hold the mobile cost Rs 695 each. Silk denims are just as popular as the rugged jeans. Silk denims come for Rs 1,048 apiece. The wrinkle-free range is also available. The Variants range of denims is over-dyed to give unique shades such as dark blues and greens in fabrics washed with pumice stones imported from Turkey. First-class denims are `de-sized' and treated with enzymes to give a salt-and-pepper effect. Pre-washed denims may also be picked up.
If you have nowhere to go for that blazer for the upcoming board meeting, just head for Tamarind. Single-breasted blazers in blues and greys cost between Rs 3,445 and Rs 3,995 each.
Tamarind is a one-stop shop for men where accessories such as socks, belts and ties may also be purchased. Ties can be had for Rs. 500 and thereabouts apiece, while belts range from Rs. 245 for single-coloured ones to Rs 395 for reversible double-coloureds. Superior quality ones cost Rs 795 each. A pair of free-sized socks costs Rs 95, while cotton lycra mixed ones with seamless toes can be bought for Rs 85.
