For those nocturnal hours

The launch of Billionaire Boys Club, the men's wear brand "for those whose day begins at night" was marked by fanfare on April 23. A report.

It's an unwritten rule in the hip-hop world that the show starts at least an hour late. Sometimes you'd regret not carrying a sleeping bag along! With a vampire bat-shaped card for an invite, deafening music for a starter, mellow lighting to add to the "let's party" mood and cocktails to unleash the spirits, the launch of Billionaire Boys Club was yet another event that reflected the gusty cultural crosswinds buffeting Chennai.
And as the hoarding in the backdrop screamed, the party never seemed to end... After a royal delay of one and a half hour, the differently designed zigzag ramp (by Prasad Bidapa) was finally set ablaze by models at 10.00 p.m. The show was got up to unravel Billionaire Boys Club's range of clothes "for those who start their day at night". But girls were present in good number. On the ramp too, they were thrown in for kinky allure!
The trick to looking good is simply not to overdo it. That's what the BBC range seemed to say. Launched by PGV International Ltd., this attitude-driven "party wear label" for men is made of "fabrics sourced from the best suppliers around the world." Double-mercerised, yarn-dyed in knit, cross-dyed micro silk, Chinese Bengaline, two tone and iridescent cotton, Chambrays and jacquards and classic twills... these were some of the fabrics. Specially designed for those nocturnal hours, the range comprises shirts, trousers and casual polos and tees. The collection displayed at an exclusive outlet at Kasi Arcade and also through Gatsby Collection (Nungambakkam High Road), Hi-Style (Anna Nagar) and Casablanca (Ispahani Centre) includes BBC accessories for men.
As for the styling, whether it was the formal-casual crossover shirts or the cool polos, they reflected understated elegance (don't miss those cute bat motifs, the brand's trademark). And the colours - mild moss and grey for shirts and ice cream hues for the tees were contemporary. Nevertheless, one was of the impression that the trouser fit was imperfect, what with the messy creasing near the pockets. And what about the prices? "Well... they are for those who are conscious of their style and not their pockets." And that obviously means Billionaire is not for the millions out there!
All said, the models on the ramp (Kevin Ray, Mr. India Raghu, Miss Femina Perfect 10 Parmita, Medha and Aditya among others) radiated a happy energy that complemented the vibrant clothes they donned. Adding pep to the show was Priscilla Corner's throaty numbers. And the party went on... into those nocturnal hours.
