Designs that reflect ethnic charm
|
Ethnic Jewels, Mylapore, has organised an exhibition of traditional ornaments. The show is on till June 6.
|
It's a quaint little shop on North Mada Street, Mylapore. Saunter in and you'd discover a treasure trove of ethnic jewellery in gold, encrusted with precious stones.
In an exhibition-cum-sale till June 6, Ethnic Jewels presents a dazzling range of antique-finish ornaments inspired by the rich craftsmanship of yore. Traditional mangamalai, exquisite Minakari sets, Rajasthani uncut diamond necklaces, ruby magiri malai, ruby adigai, ethnic vanki, thaiyat, gundumalai and padakkam, besides typical Gowri Shankar patterns form part of the repertoire.
The designs, which cover the best from various parts of the country, stand out for their styling and craftsmanship. From chunky neckpieces reminiscent of ornaments chiselled on temple sculptures to nava ratna malas and pancharatna rings that reflect an old-world charm, Ethnic Jewels has an impressive range. It also undertakes orders to make replicas of antique adornments.
Ethnic Jewels which has been manufacturing and supplying traditional jewellery to leading showrooms in the city, started its retail outlet a year ago. This exhibition coincides with its first anniversary celebrations. The shop is located at No. 1, North Mada Street, Mylapore, phone 4617077/4611179.
