The Salwar Kurta Mela at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium, Nandanam, showcases the skills of craftspersons from Kutch and Bhuj. On till June 29.

BLOCK PRINTS, mirror work, beadwork, cowrie and shell craft, appliqué and embroidery. These embellishments on salwar kameez ensembles make the Salwar Kurta Mela at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium on at Temple Towers, 672, Anna Salai, Nandanam worth a visit.
The kurtas come in different block prints on `yoke' and sleeve, while cowrie shells, beads and mirror work enhance the collection.
The sale showcases the skills of Kutch and Bhuj craftspersons, who have rebuilt their lives after the devastating earthquake.
The inputs have been provided by CCIE's design cell. Incidentally, most of the block prints are done with vegetable dyes.
Also enticing the viewer with their delicacy and charm is a range of chikan kurtas. Soft colours, quality craftsmanship and smart cuts define the chikan kurtas, a favourite with Chennai-ites.
The mela also has tussar ensembles with a smattering of embroidery and cut on elegant lines. And for the sari aficionados there is a wealth of printed and `missed checks' Mangalgiris, which make elegant statements. The mela ends on June 29.
