Rock on the roll!

Rock music is catching on in the city, thanks to June Rock Out, launched by the Unwind Center. Tune in to bands such as Mother Jane and Bacchus at St. George's School, Poonamallee High Road, tomorrow.

CHENNAI HAS been a backbencher as far as the rock scene goes. Head banging is one word that meshes well with the spirit of Bangalore and Mumbai. But, Chennai has maintained a distance from such an experience. However, the scene is changing, slowly. It all started in the summer of 1999 when Unwind Center launched June Rock Out (JRO). Since then, every June, Chennai has been `rocking'. Every Friday in the month of June, leading bands from the country perform.

Some of the bands that rocked Chennai this June to 70,000 watts of sound are: Bramha, Sceptre, Thermal and a Quarter, and Moksha.

JRO 2002 will culminate tomorrow when Mother Jane from Cochin and Bacchus from Chennai play at St. George's School, Poonamallee High Road (opposite Pachiappa's College).

Apart from their own compositions, the bands will perform cover versions of Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Toto, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Guns n' Roses, Jon Bon Jovi and Dream Theater.

Passes are available at the Unwind Center, Landmark (all outlets), Shopper's Stop, Music World, Sweet Chariot, Coffee (Adyar), Qwiky's (all outlets), Pro Music and Fruit shop (all outlets).

For more information, call Unwind Center at 3740858/3740774 or email jro@unwindcenter.com.
