The lure of tragedy

The extent to which America's imagination is tied up to the Kennedy family can be gauged by the fact that two tele-films on the late John F. Kennedy Jr. will soon be screened on TV. The TBS biopic `America's Prince: The JFK Jr. Story' is likely to beat its CBS rival `American Son'. The role of JFK Jr.'s wife, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, has been bagged by Portia de Rossi, whom viewers may remember from `Ally Mc Beal'. The memorable Jacqueline Bisset from `The Deep' is set to play her namesake Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Recurring tragedy has undoubtedly lent a fatal fascination to the Kennedy tale. Wonder how a similar story on Sanjay or Rajiv Gandhi would fare in India. That is, provided our serial makers can tear themselves away from saas-bahu intrigues!
