Mass hero films

THERE IS a scramble among Tamil heroes for the mass hero niche. This Friday, Vijay with his Youth and Surya with Sri are trying to woo the masses. The last three films of Vijay were not profitable for the producers. The trade feels that Ajit and Vijay are losing their firepower at the box-office. Ajit's Raja could not sustain itself after the first three days. Youth will be some sort of a comeback film for Vijay, who has to prove now that he still has an initial. The heroine of Youth is Sandhya, formerly Shaheen, a model who has acted in a few forgettable Telugu films.

Meanwhile, Surya is also keeping his fingers crossed, as his Sri is also releasing this Friday. It is a dada kathai', where he plays the role of a rowdy in a village. After the lukewarm response to Unnai Ninaithen, a lot is riding for Surya on Sri. His heroines are Sruthika, the16-year-old grand-daughter of Thengai Sreenivasan, and Gayatri Jayaram.
